BATCH FILE to Synchronize "Docked" LAPTOP- w/o CAL Remote
There is an alternate method for synchronizing data communications without
running CAL Remote. To properly run the following command line driven batch
file, you must know the user's CaLANdar data file extension (or DFE) number.
This can be found by running TESTRITE /W /P on the command line for the main
CaLANdar directory. For this example, assume that the CaLANdar DFE
number for the user concerned is 001 on the network copy of CaLANdar. The
CAL Satellite DFE number is always 001. Additionally, we have used the
following CaLANdar paths:
C:\CALSAT is the Satellite (laptop) copy of CaLANdar.
F:\CALEXE is the network copy of CaLANdar (program files).
F:\CALDATA is the network copy of CaLANdar (data files).
F:\CALEXE\CALTSR /N-
C:\CALSAT\CAL /Uusername /E5
COPY C:\CALSAT\T\DATA.001
F:\CALDATA\T\DATA.001
F:\CALEXE\CAL /DF:\CALDATA /Uusername /E6
F:\CALEXE\CAL /DF:\CALDATA /Uusername /E5
COPY F:\CALDATA\T\DATA.001 C:\CALSAT\T\DATA.001
C:\CALSAT\CAL /Uusername /E6
F:\CAL\CALTSR /N+
NOTE: the /E5 command line option exports 30 days of your CaLANdar
information to the DATA.nnn (where nnn equals the DFE number) file. To
export CaLANdar information over a different number of days, use the /Qn
option. For example, /Q60 will export 60 days worth of CaLANdar data.
Using CAL Remote
The following will document the process of using CAL Remote to synchronize
LAPTOP and networked PC CaLANdar data. We will assume that each port is
designated as COM1: . Additionally, we will use the CALDATA and CALEXE
directories described above. NOTE: the user's CaLANdar name must be
identical on both computers.
On the networked PC, change into the F:\CALEXE directory and run:
WAITCALL <Enter>
On the LAPTOP, log into the C:\CALSAT directory and run:
CALLCAL /C1:9600 /L /DF:\CALDATA /Uusername /Ppassword <Enter> <Enter>
From the main menu, press O,A,L.
Make sure that you have selected Satellite, Synchronize; also make sure that
the filename is selected as Remote.
Press <F10> and input the starting date and ending date for the export
process (following each field entry with an <Enter>).
When CAL Remote is finished, you will be at the Main Menu. The <Alt>Q key
sequence can be used to quickly exit from both CALLCAL and WAITCALL.
WAITCALL.EXE
1) Copy to the CAL subdirectory on the network. Same area as CALTSR.EXE and
LOG into the network directory containing CaLANdar.
2) Run WAITCALL /Cx:bbbb where x=Comport & n=Baudrate ie. /C1:2400 Other
switches are /TThh:mm /TAHH:mm for Total Connect time allowed and no Activity
disconnect timeout. Defaults are :20 & :05 Another switch is /Kxxxxx which is
up to a 10 character security Key field to prevent unautorized access to DOS
directories.
3) This will put the modem in auto-answer mode and be ready for incomming
CALLCAL activity.
4) When the CALLCAL has completed it calandar activity, WAITCALL will go back
to auto-answer mode to await another incomming call. If the caller abnormally
terminates, This system will re-boot therefore it must have auto-logon to LAN
and execute WAITCALL upon re-start.
CALLCAL.EXE
1) Run on the Remote PC that desires to call CaLANdar in any directory. If
you have a Satelite CaLANdar, you MUST have CALLCAL in that directory to
Auto-Sync.
2) Run CALLCAL /Cx:bbbb /Tnnn where x=Comport & n=Baudrate & n=telephone no.
ie. CALLCAL /C1:2400 /T1-508-875-0344 which happens to be the number and
parameters to call the MSI Calandar DEMO system if you would like. You can add
/L /Uusername to the end of the CALLCAL Command Line.
3) Remote Printing will default to LPT1: You may capture to a file by adding a
/PFfname.ext or just /PF which will capture to PRINT.DAT on the current
directory. A /RC /Kxxxxx parameter set may be added to run DOS remotely. The
xxxxx must match the xxxxx supplied on the WAITCALL.EXE end. MSI makes no
representations of running any products other than CAL.EXE via this link,
however many other programs should run fine.
4) When you exit CAL or hang-up the connection will be released. You can hit
Alt-Q to Quit at any time.
SATELITE Operation Notes
1) The Satelite Calandar is simply a standard CALANDAR installed on a laptop
or remote computer hard drive. After adding your USERNAME, you can copy the
System DIRSTR.DAT into the \CAL directory and run CAL /X32, CAL /X16, and then
CALODEX /X16 to re-index the files. You can run this routinely to get the
latest CALoDEX info from the Main System. You MUST NOT install the satelite as
a WAN CaLANdar.
2) The Satelite may only have 1 User. This USERNAME Must match the CALANDAR
USERNAME exactly AND if it is not a demo, it MUST match the Server_Name in the
CALREG Registration program.
3) Call the Main System that is running WAITCALL on some node and login as
that USERNAME (or put it in the batch file). Enter you password and then do
Options/Accessories/Import-Export and select Satelite and enter just the word
REMOTE in the Filename field. Hit <F10> to run and select the sync dates and
it is Automatic from then on. Sit back, get a cup of coffee or whatever and
when the spinners and beeps stop, both CALANDARS will be synchronized - we
hope. You can then exit or confirm the new appointments in the system
CaLANdar.
MISC. Notes:
1) You may connect your PC Directly to the LAPTOP using a Null Modem Cable and
use a /D option instead of the /T on the CALLCAL end. Set both sides up with
matching baud rates of up to :38400
2) CALLCAL & WAITCALL will normally operate with most HAYES compatible modems
without any add'l command-line switches, however, the following options are
available if needed:
initialization strings
/MI=<modem init>
/MA=<modem_answer>
/MH=<modem_hang>
/MR=<ring_string>.
e.g. /MI=ATZ\r\ATS0=0\r
sends ATZ <Enter> ATS0=0 <Enter>
Sequence \w waits 1 second.
Also after \r it will wait 1 sec.
3) CallCAL Wait parameters are as follows:
/TD min:sec Timeout for dial-connect
/TL min:sec Timout for log-on
